WT: Norway seeks new national team head coach for taekwondo

The Norwegian Martial Arts Federation is a multi-sport federation with approximately 40.000 members: The federation is the governing body of taekwondo in Norway. We are now seeking to fill the position of national team head coach for taekwondo.

The administration is headquartered at Idrettens Hus, Ullevål Stadium, and consists of 12 employees. Elite sport is located at Skullerud in Oslo. In 2013 we started a new professional Olympic team. All national team athletes and support staff both in karate and taekwondo are based in Oslo and training is conducted daily at our training facilities where we also have an office.

Together with the Norwegian Olympic center, we have an ambitious plan and you will be a crucial part of the team aiming to win championship medals. We believe an important key to success is the ability to utilize resources and interest in creating a good climate for interaction.

Profile

We are looking for a person with solid experience with Olympic taekwondo, who has had responsibilities on a high international level and coached in Grand Prix, Europeans and Worlds with good results. Coaching experience from the Olympics is an advantage.

Your experience shows coaching skills both on and outside the mat, through championship preparation as well as during and after the competition.

It is important to us that you are good at interpersonal relationships and can work well in teams. You must have the ability to define goals, set course, lead the way and conduct trainings with high quality and intensity. Unifying a team of competitive hungry athletes requires good leadership and “people skills”.

To fill the role of national team head coach it’s expected that you live in Norway and work with the team on a daily basis. The position will also require extensive travel.

Role & Responsibilities

The role of national team head coach contains different functions and here are some of the most important tasks:

  • Conduct training sessions, including recruits and invites when applicable
  • Competition coaching
  • Train recruits – develop the second best to become the best
  • Monitoring of progress and performance
  • Individual athlete evaluations
  • Coordination of various professional recourses
  • Planning training schedule and competition plan
  • Maintain international relations
